Mein schöner Hodensack by Die Kassierer (2003)

Die Kassierer are the fun-punk institution of the Ruhr: a band formed in 1985 whose entire catalogue is drinking songs, sex songs and songs about body parts, played fast and badly on purpose, which is harder than it sounds. Mein schöner Hodensack, from the 2003 album Männer, Bomben, Satelliten, is the one that goes furthest in the least time. The singer admires it, praises it, and is done in a minute and thirty-eight seconds, which is roughly as long as anyone has ever wanted to discuss one.

It did not chart and was never going to; Die Kassierer's recognition is a cult that fills clubs and festival tents across Germany rather than a number on a list. It is here because the German section needs a literal entry and no other German song commits to the subject this completely, and because the band's whole aesthetic, the organ as a punchline sung with a straight face, is exactly the one the rest of this list rewards.

Its afterlife is the chant. The title is shouted back at the band at their shows, which makes it the German Big Balls with the word said out loud, and it is the German entry where the testicles are the whole subject rather than the neighbours, a long-overdue promotion.
