The internet's verdict

Is it any good?

Anonymous. One vote per song, and you see the result after you vote.

What the title means

Literal. A pushup performed on the organ, which by the song's own logic limits any man to a personal best of one.

What the song is actually about

Tenacious D's short-lived HBO series, six episodes around the turn of the millennium, contains a scene in which Jack Black explains an exercise regime to Kyle Gass with the gravity of a personal trainer. The exercise is the title. The number of repetitions a man can do is one. That is the joke, and the song is forty-eight seconds of Black selling it as hard as a man has ever sold anything, gym memberships included.

It was never a single. A short version sits on the band's 2001 debut album as a skit at track 12, eleven tracks after Kielbasa, and the HBO scene survives on YouTube. It is here as a perfect specimen: short, purely about the subject, explicit from the first word and, medically speaking, inadvisable.

Its afterlife is a search box. About 140 people a month type the title into Google in the United States, most of them to confirm that something they half remember from twenty-five years ago really happened. It did, and it is the D's whole act in a minute: a trivial thing treated with the seriousness of a power ballad. With Kielbasa, it makes Tenacious D one of the few acts with two songs here.
