Blah Blah Blah by Kesha feat. 3OH!3 (2010)

Animal · 2:52

A top-ten hit in which Kesha tells a man to stop talking and show her where his dick is, which is not a metaphor.

What the title means

The "blah blah blah" is him. The song has heard quite enough of it and redirects his attention, in so many words, somewhere more useful.

What the song is actually about

Blah Blah Blah is a role-reversal record: a woman who would rather have sex than listen to a man speak, delivered over a Benny Blanco beat with 3OH!3 playing the men who will not shut up, a role they commit to completely. The verses are a running list of things she does not want to hear. The post-chorus is the demand, and it uses the word, which almost no song in the top ten of 2010 did.

Released on 2 February 2010 as the second single from Animal, it reached number seven in the United States and went three times Platinum, riding the year in which Tik Tok made Kesha the biggest new pop star in the country. Radio edits bleeped the line, and the bleep did what bleeps always do, which is make an entire generation of teenagers say the word louder.

Its afterlife is as the female answer record in a year full of male ones. Where Rude Boy asked whether he was "big enough", Blah Blah Blah skips the interview and asks where it is, a shortlist of one. Kesha has since remade herself twice over, and this is still the song where her early fans shout the one line everyone knows, the line radio could not play.
